New Government Dental Plan - Dec 1, 2022

Have you been hearing about the new government Dental plan and wondered how it impacts your Group Insurance Plan? Here are the most important pieces of information to guide you.

Effective Date – December 1, 2022

  • Offered to families who don’t have coverage through an Employer sponsored dental plan.

  • Run by the federal government and not the province. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will administer it.

  • Initially available to children 12 and under.

  • Offered to families with a combined annual net income of $90,000 or less.

Benefits Paid:

  • Benefit will be up-front tax-free payments to cover dental expenses and must be submitted through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Out of pocket dental care expenses with receipts must be provided.

  • Expense receipts back to October 1, 2022 will be covered.

Future plans:

By 2023 it will include children under age 18, seniors and disabled people.

By 2025 family net income less than $90,000 will include all family members without dental benefits.
