BIS Communication - November 24, 2020

Mental Health continues to be in the forefront for many employers. More and more we are hearing how COVID-19 has escalated an already growing health concern, but at this point in the pandemic, statistics are suggesting it is becoming more urgent. Consider this:

  • 84% of Canadians say their mental health has worsened since the pandemic began

  • 28% report increased use of alcohol

  • 41% of youth report symptoms of anxiety and high stress levels

  • 35% of seniors have experienced negative impacts on their mental health

  • 1 in 5 Canadians will deal with a mental health issue in a given year

  • Greatest concerns linked to Covid-19 are financial hardship, economic impact, unemployment, spreading Covid-19, mental health, changes to social interactions, conditions in healthcare facilities, Loss of life

Knowing all this the BIS team asked these questions: What can an employer do to help their employees during these trying times? What creative group benefit products has COVID highlighted? How can we all stay positive and mentally healthy during the coming winter months? What free online employer resources are available to help an employee with mental health? What can we do to get our family moving?

We came up with the following resources to assist. You can choose which is most meaningful for your needs:
