Employment Standard Update – Mandatory Poster

July 3, 2015 6:25 pm

The Employment Standards website located at www.labour.gov.on.ca offers a whole host of helpful information. Recently upon visiting, we noticed an update regarding a new mandatory poster. This poster provides a brief summary of important “What you need to know” facts for your employees. This poster is to be posted by all employers in an eye catching, high traffic area, in the workplace. In addition, as of May 20, 2015 employers are required to provide each and every employee with a paper or electronic copy of this poster, in their native language. New hires are required to have this poster within 30 days of employment.

The poster is available in several different languages on their website. You can connect with ServiceOntario at 1-800-668-9938 to order a supply or ask any questions.

Why bring this to your attention? Not all employers know that the burden of responsibility falls on employers when it comes to being up to date on any changes or updates with the Employment Standards Act. This recent poster change was noted as one of various items that a Ministry of Labour inspector will look for during an inspection. For this reason we wanted to ensure you were informed.

Be sure to check the Employment Standards Website regularly to insure that you are up to date on issues related to your employees.
